And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:9-10 KJV)
Wow! What an awesome family portrait contained in these verses! Believers reigning in the earth from “every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation,” living in harmony, and free of racism. Now, notice that this family portrait was made possible by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. There is power in the blood of Jesus, and when we honor His blood, all things are made possible. After looking at this family portrait, the question that comes into view is: Is the present day Body of Christ honoring the power in the blood of Jesus Christ?
The Apostle John, in another letter to the Church, writes: “Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command: its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness, he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him” (First John 2:7-11 NIV).
Please understand that the word darkness has nothing to do with the color of human skin, but represents acts of evil, such as, lies, hatred, sexual immorality, deception, murder, etc. (Galatians 5:19-21). Any believer who hates another believer is walking in deception and is not telling the truth about honoring the blood of Jesus. The word light speaks of truth (the reality as God sees it and what God is saying to do about what He is seeing). When believers love one another, they are walking in God’s reality of how His children are to honor the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Apostle John’s reference to an “old command” that is a “new command” speaks of a discussion Jesus had with the disciples before He went to the cross to purchase us from the dominion of sin:
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:34-35 KJV)
Why should believers not participate in, support or tolerate racism? The answer is very simple: Jesus commanded us to love each other even as He has loved us. All believers were purchased by the blood of Jesus and have a blood-bought right to love each other even as the Lord has loved us. Racism does not honor the blood of Jesus nor the believers’ blood-bought right to love each other. Racism is of the darkness and believers are of the light. As children of the light, believers are not to participate in, support or tolerate those things of darkness. The Apostle John tells us that God is light and there is no darkness in him at all (First John 1:5). “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (First John 1:6 KJV). Participation in works of darkness takes believers out of fellowship with the Lord and puts them under bondage to sin. When believers are out of fellowship with the Lord, they open a door for sickness, death and other ills to attach themselves to them.
Because there is NO DARKNESS in the Lord Jesus Christ, and believers are in Him, believers should not participate in, support or tolerate racism. Racism is of the darkness and smells of hatred and disrespect for the blood of Jesus Christ. The darkness of racism should not be in operation in the Church—that which was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ. Believers are children of the light (truth) and are COMMANDED to walk in the light even as Christ is in the light. Selah.
